About Us
A little about the Community at St. Jacob’s
Saint Jacob’s Lutheran Church is a welcoming and caring community of faith serving Chapin, South Carolina since the 1760s. Rooted in a rich history and strong Lutheran tradition, we are committed to sharing God’s love through worship, service, and outreach. As a church family, we encourage every member to use their unique gifts to serve others and grow together in faith.

Saint Jacob’s Lutheran Church has faithfully served the Chapin community since the 1760s, making it one of the oldest Lutheran congregations in South Carolina. Founded by German and Swiss settlers on the South Carolina frontier, the church became an established place of worship even before the American Revolution and was officially incorporated in 1788.
Throughout its long history, St. Jacob’s has remained rooted in the Lutheran faith while adapting to the changing needs of its congregation and community. The church has been served by many devoted pastors and leaders, experienced periods of growth and challenge, and played an important role in the development of Lutheran ministry in South Carolina.
Over the centuries, the congregation has built multiple church homes, expanded its ministries, and supported Christian education, Sunday School, youth programs, and community outreach. St. Jacob’s has also been known for its strong sense of fellowship, family, and service.
Today, St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church continues to honor its rich heritage while looking toward the future with faith, worship, and a commitment to sharing God’s love in Chapin and beyond.
